More details

Medium: Suffolk White brick from a knocked down wall on Berners Street, Ipswich, sock, nylon tights, polyester stuffing, acrylic, pastel, chalk, PVA solution.

Brick Head 4 specifically utilizes found materials such as the Suffolk White brick from an early Victorian terrace in Ipswich, a sock and nylon tights. The head wears a light beige beanie hat made from a sock and is finished with gesso and paint.

The resulting piece uses a darkly humorous aesthetic to explore themes of extreme anxiety and domestic psychological pressure. In a wider context the work explores the idea of marginalia often seen in medieval manuscripts, whereby grotesque or strange curiosities were given expression outside the main body of work.

Made at a time of intense anxiety, due to marriage breakdown the series have a deeply personal significance and offer a way to laugh at life and release the pressure.
